Ceasefire, the surrender

I watched you with just as much nerves as I'm sure you were feeling. It's the day of our wedding.

The anticipation, far greater than any battle I've ever fought,

This battle is different, of two hearts becoming one, a joining,

Spirit speaking to spirit, greater love has no one ever sought.

My heart reached for yours, outstretched wide and open to your call,

I want this just as much as you, my darling,

Invite you into the treasures of my soul, you outshine them all.

A heavy burden indeed, to love you as Christ loves the church, a High Calling.

I've been made fit for the task by dying to self daily,

Choosing the Lord time and time again, each day.

This prince has made himself ready,

I join you each time to kneel and pray,

I want you to know, I understand,

You belong to the  King first and foremost.

You’re His before I'm ever your man,

To be joined to me before all the heavenly host.

I see it in your eyes, you also understand me,

I'm his son first before I am a husband to you,

He cares for my heart too, for He takes care to protect even me,

He's taken great care to prepare me for you.

We stand before a great cloud of witnesses,

A man shall leave father and mother and cleave unto his wife,

And truly i will rejoice in the wife of my youth, singing praises,

To the God who has given us such a wonderful and new life.

Let us both sing, amen.

Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”

Genesis 2:24 (ESV)
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

while i wait part 2: sacred vow

The sacred vow

Lord, you once whispered that you were to be my husband, for a time, all others are just brothers. I ignored it. Assumed I heard incorrectly.

Surely this was not the path you carved out for me. This isn't what I meant when I asked you and prayed for a man.

Words instead of touch. Presence instead of a kiss. And an anticipation that grows, like something greater is coming…soon, where we meet face to face.

I asked for a king, but you showed me You ARE my king. I made idols of false gods. You showed me that what my heart craved for was YOU all along.

You gifted me this heart to live loved and love well. You first, then others like me.

You anointed these hands to be a balm to the weary soul, and maybe plant a seed that will grow to make them whole.

I see the world with the Spirit. I don't see flesh and bone but something holy. Something Sacred. Something too beautiful for words, but I'll try anyway.

I take now this vow…

To worship only you,

To love you first, most, to trust, keep the faith.

Even if my life doesn't unfold how I imagined. And love you still, even if it does. If this is just a season to show me how a man should love me, if I'm blessed with one.

I come to you not as a sister, nun, or in a convent; that's not my calling, bless them, but I do bring my heart, tattered, beaten, and battered as it is. I vow to always, always choose you first. Forever and always.

I said I was ready for love. But love already found me. I lay to rest the girl I used to be, and finally embrace…. arriving. I blossomed without a man on my arm; I will continue to shine whether or not a babe was born of me. It's not giving up, it's prioritizing. First things first, and all else shall be added to me.

I won't wish for mythical tomorrows, and unsure “one days”. I won't dwell on regretted yesterdays and “could have beens” either. I'm choosing instead to stay rooted in today. I'm choosing now…to stay.

Thank You, Father, your daughter is listening. Amen

*Author's note: The “Him” responses in this book are not presented as new revelation, prophecy, or additions to Holy Scripture.

They are poetic meditations—an imaginative, prayerful response drawn from the character of God as revealed in Scripture. These words are meant to echo biblical truth, not replace or expand it.

All authority belongs to the written Word of God. Where God speaks definitively, He has already spoken in Scripture.

This work is offered as a devotional reflection, written from a human perspective responding to God’s revealed promises, not as divine speech itself.

● Hosea 2:19 – 'I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in

righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy.'

● Matthew 22:37 – 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,

and with all your mind.'

*****

when we surrender our life to God, its not giving up on hopes and dreams, but trusting the one that knows better than us and knows whats best for us. Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart. *even if they may or may not look the way we wanted them to.
